Not in my backyard

The liberals are always pushing for mixed income housing in any neighborhood but theirs.   Interesting how they scream when it happens to them but ridicule those who complain when it is in their neighborhood.   Now if we could have this in Beverly Hills, Carmel Ca., upper East side of NYC etc.  Not in my lifetime.  Just like those in Hollywood who complain about Pres. Trump and the wall, yet they go home and hide behind their walls with armed security guards.

Upper East Side residents whose kids love to romp at the Holmes Tower playground say the city is making a big mistake by allowing it to be razed and replaced with a 47-story apartment building.
“We deserve better from the people we elect,” said Tryan Pryce at a community protest Tuesday.
Pryce, 39, said his 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter get much of their needed exercise by running in the playground — and he labeled elected officials “thieves” because they want to “steal” it from the neighborhood.

The New York City Housing Authority announced this month that it had tapped Fetner Properties to build a 330-unit mixed-income building on East 92nd Street between First and York avenues as part of its “NextGeneration” program, started two years ago to develop “underutilized” public land.
But Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney said the area is already plenty crowded.
“You’re taking their light and air and playground,” she said, standing in the play area alongside parents.

Maloney said the proposed project — for which the city would receive a $25 million payout from the developer in exchange for a 99-year lease — is short-sighted.
“We need more green, not greed, in the city,” she said.

Councilmember Ben Kallos said he has attended dozens of meetings where the details of the lease and the construction plans are being hashed out.
Although half of the units in the new building are intended to be affordable housing, Kallos says he suspects the project would not benefit the existing community.
“I don’t think the NYCHA residences should be trapped in the shadows of the wealthy,” Kallos said.
“I want to save this playground.”

Protestors vowed to fight the plans.

“We’ve been given so few details, we can fit them on one hand,” said Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, calling the project a “cash cow” for the housing authority, which plans to spend it on needed renovations to Holmes Tower.
City housing spokeswoman Jasmine Blake said the site is being developed to raise “critically needed revenue at a time when NYCHA is facing over $17 billion in unmet capital needs.”

Mark Zuckerberg and Universal Basic Income (UBI)

At Harvard yesterday during a commencement speech, Mark Zuckerberg brought up the idea of a universal basic income.  That is everyone, at least everyone in this county, be given a basic salary, a cushion, just for being.  Of course the money will come from the government and where does the government get all this money, nowhere else but from the taxpayer.  Those of us with a brain realize there is just so much money a working member of society can afford in paying taxes before they will need a UBI.

However, I see the light at the end of the tunnel on this.  I believe Mark Zuckerberg who is worth approximately $60 Billion should begin this universal basic income by using $59 Billion of his own income and donate it as a beginning of the UBI.  This way, he can continue to work even harder to produce more income to donate to his UBI idea.  Then, he can get all his other rich friends such as Bezos, Buffet and others to continue the process.  They can put the money they earn through working and donate most of their income to the UBI.  This way, all of us receiving this UBI can sit back and think of what we would like to do with our lives or what invention we can develop.  Naturally, we can take our time on these ideas, like maybe 60 years.

This has and is being used in Finland and what that government has found is the people have lost the incentive to go out and work to better themselves or contribute to society with ideas or actually working for a living to get off the government dole.
What government should be doing is accelerating people into working either through emphasizing education or vocational training so that people can see that with a little effort they will realize as they apply themselves to succeed and accelerate that effort, they can better themselves and become a productive member of society.  Yes, we all know there are some who will fall on hard times and that is where present government programs can offer temporary assistance until that individual or family can improve themselves.

But UBI is not the answer.  Effort to make something of your life through hard work and applying yourself to achieve in whatever job you choose is the answer.  UBI will encourage more people just to sit on their butt and let others pay for their existence.

So, if Mark Zuckerberg really believes in his UBI idea, then it is time to put up or shut up.  $59 Billion is a good start.  Talk is cheap, action is what is needed and he can begin his UBI with his money and not the taxpayer. Since he was an avid Obama supporter and Obama’s socialist idea of transferring wealth from those who have it to those who do not, Mark Zuckerberg should continue Obama’s program.  However, I am sure he was really suggesting that government provide the UBI and not using his mega income.  This really means it will fall on the middle income taxpayer and not the super rich or poor.  The liberal rich love to talk about what government can do as long it is not costing them money.  Just like they all claim we should not build a wall, but go live in their wall enclosed homes with security.  What is good for the goose is not good for the gander.

HEALTH CARE CONTROVERSY

So, we now are hearing the democrats complain about the recently passed House Republicans health care bill.  According to their leader, Sen. Schumer, the republican bill will increase health premium, people will lose their health insurance, and naturally the line they use for everything republican, people will die.  Well, I wonder where Sen. Schumer has been since the passage of the ACA (AKA Obamacare) where health insurance premiums are going through the roof, people lost their health insurance, are limited what insurance company they can use or there is no choice and are paying for services they will never use.  Of course, they also are hit with excessive deductibles from $6,000 to over $12,000.  Before Obamacare, most people that had insurance were satisfied.  Yes, the claim that some people did not have insurance was true.  We heard an estimate of 30 million people and Obamacare would resolve that issue. However, it was reported last year that there are approximately 30 million people without insurance even with Obamacare in place.

So, for the next few years we will be entertained by the democrats that all seem to say the same thing as if their brains are under control of other forces or they cannot address an issue since they have no answer.  So they have resorted to their usual line when all else has failed, people will die, mommy will be thrown off a cliff, children will die in their mother’s arms insurance will become unaffordable and the usual 30 million will not have insurance. What they do not tell you is if you have no insurance, the hospitals will still give you treatment and always have.

So the question to ask a democrat is what kind of insurance changes has your party proposed to improve health care.  Notice, they have not offered any change, because they know Obamacare is being rejected by the people and have refused to offer alternatives since their initial offering of Obamacare has failed.  This is what we have in Congress, do nothing democrats hoping this will get them more seats in congress at the next election rather than help the people today.  Naturally, the Republican Party is slightly better but will travel down the same road.  Both parties are more interested in getting elected, keeping their party in power over doing what is good for the country.

We had 8 years of Obama and his democrats attempting to force socialism upon our country that is in conflict with our constitution.  What the people need to do is ask a democrat where socialism has been more successful than our Republic form of government.  I would start by talking about how great it is in Venezuela.  A rich country that is now collapsed, but the socialist are still in power where they believe government will tell the people what is good and not good for them.  Sound familiar.
